About us
Founded in 2014, we are a Massachusetts-based advocacy group dedicated to supporting individuals with mental illness who are involved in the criminal justice system. Our mission is to ensure greater access to comprehensive mental health care and humane treatment for this vulnerable population
FFIMI was formed by families who met through having loved ones at Bridgewater State Hospital. We know firsthand what it means to walk alongside someone suffering from serious mental illness (SMI) who has become entangled in the criminal justice system. Our loved ones did not choose their illness, and despite the love and care of family and friends, they now face a system that too often punishes rather than treats.
Through this blog, we share our advocacy efforts, resources, and insights on mental health, striving to raise awareness, drive meaningful change, and promote a more just and compassionate system.
